Pets – Missy the Ladybug

We don’t know when she moved into our upstairs bathroom, but she has patroled it now for weeks. To put her outside at this time of year would mean instant death, and besides, we have grown fond of her presence. I hadn’t seen her for two days and told my husband I thought she was “gone.” This morning, he gave me the “Missy” update…she was still in residence. I thnk she uses the philodendron plant as a home and restaurant.  Perhaps she finds microscropic insects to eat in the soil and on the leaves. If she is on the top of the bathroom vanity, I gently place a few drops of water near her so she can drink. A little weird…maybe…but definitely fun to have a ladybug as a pet.

The really good news is I paint a lot of floral watercolors, and now I have plenty of good reference shots of ladybugs. Maybe my next attempt will be titled, “The Ladybug Parade.” FUN!

  1. [...] During the winter of 2012 we had a visit from “Missy the Ladybug.” She vacationed for several weeks in our upstairs bath. She somehow escaped all the perils of the room, and managed to thrive, until one day she found a new abode. You can read Missy’s story here: Missy the Ladybug. [...]

  2. Now that is unusual pet.
