Quirkiness – Using the Heat at Hand/Drying Herbs

Using the trunk of my car to flash-dry parsley has been one of my better “quirky” ideas. The parsley dried to a perfect crispness in only three days. The leaves lost none of their brilliant green color or sensational scent as they dried. I’m thrilled with the results. Even if the heat wave wanes, I still think parking the car in the sunshine and drying my herbs inside the hot trunk makes great sense.

A mason jar is the perfect container. Wide-mouthed and with plenty of space, the parsley stays full-bodied instead of being crushed and packed down. I can’t wait to use it! Now is the time to sow more seeds to keep the harvest going through the late Autumn months.

Hmmm….What should I try next? I have a good amount of basil at hand, I think I’ll grab a tray and pop that in the trunk too!

All you need is a cookie or pizza sheet and a kitchen towel, and, of course…

Your favorite herbs. Try flowers too!
