    1. The town started as a religious camp meeting site. Ministers would come from far and near, and so would people, and they would live in the little cottages for weeks at a time during the summer and have religious services in an outdoor church called the tabernacle. A few really famous preachers came to Pitman. Now the whole town has grown up around the camp. Since the cottages were just for the summer meetings, they are very small and very close together. They almost look like doll houses. When I was about 7 years old my parents lived in one of the cottages, a larger one, on the outskirts of the main wheel of the camp. Here is a link that can tell it better than I can. http://www.gloucestercountynj.gov/about/historical/pitmangrove.asp

        1. No, we lived there for two years. It was on the outskirts of the camp meeting area. I live in the town next door and the camp meeting is within a mile of my home. I was walking there yesterday with one of my grandsons and took the Christmas photos. It is a very relaxing and peaceful place to walk.
