Quote & Psalm – The Timely Glow and Shine of Autumn

I find this C.S. Lewis quote very timely:

“Now is our chance to choose the right side. God is holding back to give us that chance. It won’t last forever. We must take it or leave it.” ~ C.S. Lewis

Here are a few timely photographs of the foliage transformation to Autumn colors in my Mid-Atlantic state of New Jersey. These photos were taken at Alcyon Lake Park in Pitman, New Jersey. The accompanying verses are found in Psalm 144:12-15. (The Living Bible Translation) The words of the Psalm, written by King David, 1000 BC, are another timely reminder of what to hope for in our country and in countries all around the world. Let the glow and shine of Autumn warm your heart.

Psalm 144:12-15(TLB) A Psalm of David:
“Here is my description of a truly happy land where Jehovah is God:
img_3604-2
Sons vigorous and tall as growing plants.
img_3634-2
Daughters of graceful beauty like the pillars of a palace wall.
img_3626-2
Barns full to the brim with crops of every kind.
img_3627-2
Sheep by the thousands out in our fields.
img_3615-2
Oxen loaded down with produce.
img_3609-2
No enemy attacking the walls, but peace everywhere.
img_3602-2
No crime in our streets.
img_3610-2
Yes, happy are those whose God is Jehovah.

And to that I add my own, “Amen.”

Psalm & Praise – U2’s “40” (lyrics) – A Song of Thanksgiving

A BLESSED THANKSGIVING DAY TO YOU.

“I waited patiently for the LORD;
And He inclined to me and heard my cry.

He brought me up out of the pit of destruction, out of the miry clay,
And He set my feet upon a rock making my footsteps firm.

He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God;
Many will see and fear
And will trust in the LORD.”

Psalm 40:1-3

“And yet, along comes this idea called Grace to upend all that “as you reap, so will you sow” stuff. Grace defies reason and logic. Love interrupts, if you like, the consequences of your actions, which in my case is very good news indeed, because I’ve done a lot of stupid stuff.I’m holding out for Grace. I’m holding out that Jesus took my sins onto the Cross, because I know who I am, and I hope I don’t have to depend on my own religiosity.” ~ Bono

Prompt/The Daily Prompt at WordPress – Psalm 100

Daily Prompt – By Heart

By Heart – “You’re asked to recite a poem (or song lyrics) from memory — what’s the first one that comes to mind? Does it have a special meaning, or is there another reason it has stayed, intact, in your mind?”

walls school

Before prayer and the Bible were taken out of public schools, a precious elderly lady, my second grade teacher, Mrs. Ware, taught our class to memorize the 100th Psalm. The assignment was given at this time of year…for it is a Psalm of Thanksgiving. The words, in the King James Version, have never left my mind. I consider my year with her one of my best school years – a truly godly woman. I wonder what the differences in our culture would be if prayer had been left in our schools.

“Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands.
Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing.
Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.
For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.”

I am forever grateful that I lived in a time of school prayer and Bible reading.

Psalms and Proverbs – Finding Peace

Be still2

We all have days when we are mentally worn out and physically tired. Today is that day for me. Perhaps it is yours as well. I take to heart the many verses in the New Testament that speak of Jesus withdrawing to “lonely” places to pray. At times we all need to draw the curtains, shut off the phone, hide the car keys or walking shoes, and take the time to truly rest. A blessed Sabbath Day to you.

And when day came, He departed to a lonely place; and the multitudes were searching for Him, and came to Him, and tried to keep Him from going away from them. (Luke 4:42)

But He Himself would often slip away to the wilderness and pray. (Luke 5:16)

And it was at this time that He went off to the mountain to pray, and He spent the whole night in prayer to God. (Luke 6:12)

Photograph and Psalm – Be Still…

“Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation.

I will be honored throughout the world.”

Psalm 46:10 (NLT)

myrna 010

Sometimes to recover from a desolation of soul you must escape to a desolate place. There you will find rest. You will find stillness for your spirit. Breathe deep, exhale anxiety, and find peace within through God.

May the Eternal and Living God

bestow a gentle stillness upon your life

on this Sabbath Day.

Psalms & Proverbs and Perspective – A Name

A few of my many names:

Image (25)

“But now thus says the Lord, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.” Isaiah 43:1

This past week I was talking to my four year old grandson about my name. I told him, “My name is Kathy.”

“Yes,” he agreed, “But now your name is Nanny.”

His response delighted me. He said it with such affirmation and faith. I am his “NANNY.”

His words sent my thoughts about my name into a quick reverse, touching on all the names I’ve been known by, and then into my future.  I suddenly found my heart captivated by the thought that God has a special name just for me, and immediately, I felt a surge of certainty that the name he has given me is written in His Book of Life.

Is your name written in his Book?

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

I love this old hymn by C. Austin Miles. Click on the link below and you will feel as if you are in an old-time camp-meeting:

A NEW NAME IN GLORY

A NEW NAME IN GLORY

I was once a sinner, but I came
Pardon to receive from my Lord:
This was freely given, and I found
That He always kept His word.

Refrain

There’s a new name written down in glory,
And it’s mine, O yes, it’s mine!
And the white robed angels sing the story,
“A sinner has come home.”
For there’s a new name written down in glory,
And it’s mine, O yes, it’s mine!
With my sins forgiven I am bound for Heaven,
Never more to roam.

I was humbly kneeling at the cross,
Fearing naught but God’s angry frown;
When the heavens opened and I saw
That my name was written down.

Refrain

In the Book ’tis written, “Saved by Grace,”
O the joy that came to my soul!
Now I am forgiven, and I know
By the blood I am made whole.
